The !Xun Language Advocacy Group was established following a local workshop held in Platfontein on 8–9 April 2025. With fewer than 20,000 speakers globally—and less than half of that number in South Africa—!Xun is critically endangered. Yet within Platfontein lies a unique strength: the largest community of !Xun speakers in the country.
Our group was created by local residents and activists who recognise the urgent need to document, preserve and revitalise the !Xun language. We aim to support researchers, funders, educators, and linguists who share this vision.

We work in partnership with the Platfontein Community Property Association (CPA), PanSALB, the South African San Council, and the Department of Basic Education to ensure that the voice of the !Xun people is heard, valued, and sustained for future generations.

We welcome collaboration, support, and inquiries from individuals and organisations interested in helping preserve the !Xun language.
Whether you're a researcher, educator, funder, student, or community member—your voice matters in this journey.
